Role Summary

The HBM Design Architecture team evaluates next-generation AI memory and system environments to inform architectural strategy. This intern role supports early-stage research, performance modeling, and tool development to guide future HBM decisions while working with senior engineers and technical mentors.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for current graduate students; requires onsite, full-time participation for the internship duration.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Research trends in compute, networking, and storage to anticipate future AI workload behavior.
• Gather and synthesize data on bandwidth, latency, and system-level memory requirements for HBM analysis.
• Develop or refine simulation frameworks modeling AI cluster performance and memory subsystem behavior.
• Help build trend dashboards using CSP benchmarks and industry datasets.
• Collaborate with DTPCO and other mentors to explore architectural intercept opportunities for next-generation AI systems.

Requirements

Must-have skills and constraints:

• Must be able to work onsite for a 6-month internship and not graduate prior to the internship end date.
• Foundational understanding of computer architecture, digital systems, and hardware/software interaction.
• Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or similar languages.
• Ability to learn new tools, simulation frameworks, and data-analysis workflows quickly.

Nice-to-have:

• Exposure to AI workload behavior, ML training pipelines, or large-scale system bottlenecks.
• Ability to translate research findings into concise technical summaries or recommendations.
• Familiarity with large language models and recent machine learning developments.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Must remain enrolled and not graduate before the end of the 6-month internship.
