Intern - CVD/ALD Advanced Process Development
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Intern - CVD/ALD Advanced Process Development
Role Summary
Full-time, on-site R&D internship within the Advanced Process Development (Technology Development) team at Micron Semiconductor Asia Operations in Singapore. The role focuses on development, characterization, and optimization of plasma CVD and ALD deposition processes for memory device manufacturing.
Work includes hands-on process experiments, data analysis, modeling, failure analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver a qualified process recipe and a validated deposition model.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Ideal candidate can commit to a full-time, 4-month internship; suitable for MS or PhD students or equivalent early-career researchers.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and expected deliverables:
- Develop and optimize plasma CVD and ALD deposition processes to meet structural and electrical specifications.
- Create and validate numerical/physics-based models of the deposition process and correlate them with process data.
- Design and run experiments, perform data analysis, and apply statistical process control techniques.
- Perform root-cause and unique failure-mode investigations and participate in multi-functional failure analysis.
- Collaborate with process integration, electrical failure analysis, yield enhancement, manufacturing, equipment teams, and vendors.
- Document results and report project status to Fab engineers and assigned mentor.
- Deliver a characterized CVD/ALD process recipe and an associated model that meet project requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and competencies (education items summarized separately below):
- Knowledge of transport phenomena, surface phenomena, and atomic/molecular physics relevant to thin-film deposition.
- Familiarity with CVD/ALD principles and plasma sources used in plasma deposition.
- Experience with thin-film characterization techniques and experimental design.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, data analysis, and statistical process control (SPC) understanding.
- Proficiency in scripting and data-analysis tools such as Python, R, or JMP.
- Exposure to process- or feature-scale modeling and plasma modeling is encouraged.
- Ability to work in a team, communicate technical results, and manage assigned tasks under mentorship.
- AI proficiency or familiarity with AI-enabled workflows is a plus.
- Understanding of solid-state devices is optional but beneficial.
Education Requirements
Ideal candidates are pursuing an MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering/science majors.
