Interface IP Pre-Sales Application Engineer, Senior Staff
SynopsysJob Title
Interface IP Pre-Sales Application Engineer, Senior Staff
Role Summary
Customer-facing pre-sales Applications Engineering (FAE) role covering Interface IP opportunities across Korea. Partner with Sales, R&D, Product Marketing and Program Management to define solutions, run evaluations/POCs, and drive technical closure for Interface IP (SerDes, PCIe, DDR, USB, MIPI, D2D, Ethernet).
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree-specific experience guidance; typically a candidate will have roughly 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities center on technical discovery, customer evaluations, and cross-functional execution to secure IP design wins.
- Own pre-sales technical lifecycle: requirements discovery, solution definition, technical presentations, evaluation/POC planning, and technical close.
- Work with customer SoC architects and design teams to recommend appropriate Interface IP and integration approaches.
- Lead technical evaluations and IP selection: define success criteria, evaluation plans, configuration/recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Partner with Sales to qualify opportunities, shape win strategies, and align on customer decision processes and timelines.
- Drive customer workshops, architecture reviews, and follow-ups; ensure action items close on time.
- Provide competitive positioning, handle technical objections, and guide customers through tradeoffs versus alternatives.
- Coordinate PHY IP porting and technical negotiations across process nodes and customer environments.
- Translate customer issues into actionable engineering requests and drive prioritization with R&D during evaluations and integration.
- Contribute technical input for RFIs/RFPs, proposals, and commercial scope/effort estimates when needed.
- Feed field insights on emerging trends (AI, automotive, data center, chiplets, packaging) into product roadmap and go-to-market planning.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for effective performance in this role.
- Strong hands-on background in ASIC/SoC design and/or verification with understanding of integration and silicon bring-up challenges.
- Technical expertise in at least one Interface IP domain (SerDes, PCIe, DDR, USB, MIPI, D2D, Ethernet) including protocol and PHY architecture knowledge.
- Proven customer-facing pre-sales experience (FAE/Sales Engineer/Applications Engineer/Technical Consultant) supporting evaluations and driving technical closure.
- Experience delivering technical presentations and leading customer workshops; able to translate complex technical concepts for engineering and business stakeholders.
- Fluent Korean and English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and drive alignment without direct authority.
- Ability to manage multiple customer engagements in parallel and follow through on commitments.
- Nice-to-have: program management or project leadership experience on complex SoC or IP integration efforts, especially across multiple sites or time zones.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience in IC design, verification, semiconductor IP, or related areas.
