Role Summary

The Designer, Layout will produce and verify integrated circuit layouts of moderate complexity, working with guidance from senior engineers and collaborating with design, verification, and manufacturing teams. The role focuses on layout implementation, timing extraction and analysis, and use of EDA tools to deliver manufacturable IC layouts.

This position sits within an IC design team and supports projects from layout implementation through verification to manufacturing readiness.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires about 2+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include executing layout tasks, performing verification, and resolving layout issues to meet project objectives.

  • Design and implement integrated circuit layouts with moderate complexity.
  • Perform timing extraction and analysis and address timing-related issues.
  • Use EDA tools for layout creation and verification; drive increasing independence in tool usage.
  • Resolve moderately complex layout problems through analysis and iteration.
  • Execute short-term projects with defined deliverables and work to meet schedule targets.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (design, verification, manufacturing) to ensure manufacturability and performance.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to more junior engineers when appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities for successful performance in this role.

  • Demonstrated competence in IC layout design principles and implementation.
  • Proficiency with IC layout practices, CMOS technology, timing analysis, and common EDA layout/verification tools.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
  • Professional communication skills to collaborate across engineering and program teams.
  • Business awareness: ability to align work with program and company objectives.

Nice-to-have:

  • Prior experience performing timing extraction and independent layout verification on comparable analog/mixed-signal projects.
