IC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement high-complexity ASIC/SoC blocks for advanced process nodes (7nm–2nm). Deliver RTL-to-GDS or Gates-to-GDS physical implementation and signoff for large-scale designs.

Work within a physical design team and collaborate with front-end, verification, and tapeout teams to meet timing, area, power, and manufacturability targets.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Minimum of 5 years of relevant IC design / physical implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on physical implementation, verification, and automation of complex SoC designs.

• Execute full RTL-to-GDS or Gates-to-GDS implementation: placement, clock tree synthesis, detailed routing, physical verification, and timing analysis.
• Use commercial and in-house EDA tools (e.g. Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens) for physical design at 7nm/5nm/3nm/2nm nodes.
• Drive timing closure, formal verification, and prepare designs for signoff.
• Collaborate with front-end designers, verification, and foundry/Tapeout teams to resolve integration and manufacturability issues.
• Develop and maintain automation and scripts to improve design flows and productivity.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills; nice-to-have items noted.

• Proven experience with commercial EDA tool flows for physical implementation (placement, routing, signoff checks).
• Experience with large designs (hundreds of millions of gates) in advanced process technologies.
• Proficient with UNIX/Linux and scripting (Tcl, Bash, Python) for automation and flow integration.
• Strong understanding of timing analysis, constraints, and closure methodologies.
• Nice-to-have: knowledge of front-end design and synthesis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering (or closely related technical field).
