Job Title
HSIO Characterization Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the HSIO Post Silicon Engineering group responsible for bench characterization and electrical validation of High-Speed IO interfaces and LPDDR subsystems across mobile, automotive, compute, and datacenter platforms.
Focused on post-silicon evaluation of PHY/IP electrical performance, compliance testing, platform bring-up, test automation, and cross-functional debugging with design and system teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level. 0–2 years of related work experience.
Responsibilities
Primary hands-on and engineering responsibilities for post-silicon validation and characterization:
- Evaluate parametric and electrical performance of High-Speed IO IPs.
- Perform post-silicon validation, characterization, and compliance testing for HSIO interfaces and LPDDR subsystems.
- Analyze signal quality: eye diagrams, jitter, BER, receiver tolerance, equalization, and link performance.
- Perform failure analysis and root-cause investigations at chip, board, and system levels.
- Bring up validation platforms, boards, and complex test environments.
- Develop validation plans, test methodologies, automation frameworks, and test scripts.
- Collaborate with PHY design, system engineering, software, hardware, and customer teams globally under time constraints.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have skills listed separately.
- Familiarity with post-silicon validation and characterization of DDR and High-Speed IO interfaces.
- Knowledge of HSIO standards (PCIe, USB, UFS, MIPI, Ethernet, DisplayPort, HDMI) at PHY and protocol levels.
- Understanding of electrical compliance concepts: eye diagram analysis, jitter measurements, BER testing, receiver tolerance, equalization, differential signaling, signal and power integrity, transmission line effects, de-embedding.
- Hands-on experience using bench instruments: oscilloscopes, BERT/J‑BERT, protocol analyzers, vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, timing sources, logic analyzers.
- Experience with board bring-up, debug, and test setup development.
- Programming and automation skills (Python, C/C++, C#, Shell, LabVIEW or equivalent) for test automation and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Nice-to-have: exposure to FPGA platforms and tools (Xilinx, Intel/Altera) and experience developing automated test/data-analysis frameworks.
Education Requirements
M.Tech or B.Tech (or Bachelor's) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field; or equivalent practical experience.
