Hardware System Test Engineering Team Leader
FractileJob Title
Hardware System Test Engineering Team Leader
Role Summary
Lead system-level test strategy and execution for an AI accelerator server platform, covering single servers, multi-node racks, manufacturing, and field deployment. Manage a team and external partners to deliver automated tests, diagnostics, and scalable processes across hardware, firmware, OS, and management subsystems.
Experience Level
Senior — approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in system-level or server platform validation, test engineering, or platform QA.
Responsibilities
Responsible for defining and operating end-to-end system test capabilities for servers and racks; drive automation, diagnostics, and manufacturing/field readiness.
- Define system-level test strategy for an AI accelerator server platform with high-speed IO, liquid cooling, and heterogeneous compute/management subsystems.
- Design and implement structural, functional, stress, and reliability tests for servers and full-rack configurations.
- Deploy and scale system test suites in manufacturing to ensure high throughput, repeatability, failure isolation, and secure automation workflows.
- Deliver field diagnostics and repair solutions including remote test suites, health checks, failure triage, and component-level isolation.
- Integrate test and diagnostic functions with BMC/OpenBMC, Redfish, and platform-management frameworks; validate telemetry and hardware-control behaviors.
- Develop automation infrastructure across embedded Linux (BMC/RMC) and server-class Linux environments.
- Partner with rack integration, hardware, firmware, and OS teams to improve testability and define rack-level tests.
- Establish KPIs and dashboards for test coverage, yield, throughput, failure rates, and field return correlation.
- Manage an internal test engineering team and external vendors; own test documentation, factory/field procedures, and debug guides.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and leadership experience:
- 8+ years in system-level/server platform validation, test engineering, or platform QA.
- Strong knowledge of server architectures, BMC/OpenBMC/Redfish, Linux-based systems, and hardware–firmware interactions.
- Experience validating high-speed IO subsystems (PCIe Gen4/5/6 or comparable serial fabrics).
- Experience developing tests for manufacturing or field diagnostics at scale.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage external vendors, and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Skilled in system debug, log analysis, failure isolation, and multi-component testing.
- Familiarity with liquid-cooled or thermally complex server designs.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with accelerator-based compute (AI/ML, GPUs, custom ASICs).
- Experience with rack-level architectures, DC power distribution, or cooling infrastructure.
- Knowledge of reliability testing, environmental stress testing, and fleet-level monitoring.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
