Job Title

Hardware-Software Integration and Production Test Engineer

Role Summary

Develop production test software and infrastructure for optical transceivers, networking hardware, and high-speed interconnect products. The team builds instrument automation, low-level drivers, and test systems used on production lines to validate devices.

This is a hands-on engineering role spanning hardware bring-up, low-level software development, validation, deployment, and production support across multiple products and production lines.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience in software development, hardware-software integration, firmware, or automated hardware testing.

Responsibilities

Deliver and maintain robust, scalable production test solutions that control lab and production hardware.

  • Design and implement production test systems for optical transceivers and interconnect products.
  • Develop software to control optical instruments, custom test boards, and other hardware components.
  • Write low-level drivers and hardware-control code in C/C++; integrate native code with higher-level C# applications via DLL wrappers.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, validation, deployment, and production support for test solutions.
  • Debug complex hardware-software integration issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and software tools; work with I2C, SPI, UART and similar interfaces.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, datasheets, block diagrams, and timing specifications.
  • Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and yield.
  • Collaborate with electrical, thermal, mechanical, and software engineers to translate hardware requirements into automated test procedures.
  • Take technical ownership from prototype through production release and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements

Core technical skills and proven experience required for this role.

Must-have:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in software development, low-level driver/firmware development, hardware-software integration, or automated hardware testing.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more of: Python, C#, C, C++ and experience interfacing software with hardware.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, block diagrams, hardware datasheets, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on debugging experience with laboratory instruments and debugging tools.
  • Experience diagnosing complex hardware-software interaction issues and driving them to resolution.
  • Proven track record of technical ownership through development, integration, validation, and production deployment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with optical test equipment (power meters, VOAs, laser sources, optical switches).
  • Hands-on experience with PCIe, Ethernet, or other high-speed interfaces and common buses (I2C, SPI, UART).
  • Experience developing device drivers or hardware-interface software for Windows or Linux.
  • Experience wrapping native C/C++ libraries for use in .NET/C# environments.
  • Background in networking hardware, optical communications, semiconductor validation, or production test environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field with significant hardware, electronics, or software experience.
