Hardware/Silicon Internship
Efficient ComputerJob Title
Hardware/Silicon Internship
Role Summary
Join the hardware team to work on production silicon and own a well-scoped internship project with a dedicated mentor. Work spans microarchitecture, RTL implementation, verification, and implementation flow improvements for an energy-efficient processor architecture.
Interns present results to the engineering team at the end of the internship and collaborate with architecture, design, and verification engineers through the tapeout cycle.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current undergraduate or graduate students. Candidates should have at least one academic term remaining after Summer 2027.
Responsibilities
You will contribute to the full silicon development flow and own discrete tasks with mentor guidance.
- Define micro-architecture for blocks and features and implement RTL in SystemVerilog.
- Translate specifications into verification plans; build testbench components and write, run, and debug tests.
- Run synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis; evaluate power, performance, and area trade-offs.
- Build and improve design, verification, and implementation flows, including automation and AI-assisted tooling.
- Collaborate with engineers to find and fix issues before tapeout and present results to the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience expected for the internship.
- Coursework or project experience in digital logic design, verification, VLSI/physical design, or EDA tooling.
- Experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, C/C++, Tcl, or Perl.
- Ability to work onsite for a 12-week summer internship and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have
- Coursework in computer architecture.
- Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Experience with synthesis, static timing analysis, or place-and-route tools.
- Experience with simulators, waveform debugging, or FPGA design.
- Interest in applying LLMs/agents to engineering workflows.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with expected graduation by Summer 2028. Applicants must have at least one academic term remaining after Summer 2027.
