Job Title
Hardware Failure Analysis Engineer – Electro-Optic Interconnect
Role Summary
Join the Interconnect Failure Analysis (FA) team within Product Engineering to lead root-cause investigations for NVIDIA's high-speed electrical and electro-optic interconnect products. The role focuses on debugging production and customer-returned units across electrical, optical, and system domains.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience in hardware debug, validation, or failure analysis.
Responsibilities
You will lead technical failure investigations and coordinate corrective actions across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Lead failure analysis of optical modules, active optical cables (AOCs), and high-speed interconnect hardware.
- Review electrical, optical, mechanical, process, and firmware aspects of designs to identify integration failure modes.
- Design, develop, and execute debug and validation test plans for production and returned units.
- Perform hands-on electrical and optical debugging using lab equipment and automated test systems.
- Correlate electrical, optical, and system-level measurements to identify failure signatures.
- Coordinate with design, validation, manufacturing, reliability teams and external partners to drive root cause and corrective actions.
- Document investigations and produce clear technical failure analysis reports with recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.
- 3+ years of experience in hardware debug, validation, or failure analysis of complex electronic systems.
- Experience with high-speed hardware or communication systems (SerDes, PAM4 concepts preferred).
- Hands-on experience reading schematics and using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVMs, pattern generators, and signal analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to lead complex root-cause investigations and work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electro-optic systems (optical transceivers, VCSEL/EML lasers, photodiodes, optical modules).
- Familiarity with BER analysis, signal integrity, and high-speed signaling measurement techniques.
- Experience with optical lab equipment (OSA, optical power meters) and test automation using Python or Linux environments.
- Background with networking hardware platforms (switch/NIC tools and CLIs).
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Optics, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
