Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Design, verify and bring-up embedded hardware for DSTREAM probes and related JTAG, trace and boundary-scan products. Work within a cross-discipline team of hardware, FPGA and software engineers to define interfaces, resolve integration issues, and support prototype and production test.
Work includes MCU-based control boards and SoC/FPGA designs with multiple power domains and high-speed interfaces. Salary range: £55,300 - £74,800 per year.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Create and review schematic designs for embedded products with attention to testing and manufacturability.
- Support board bring-up, hardware debugging and lab root-cause analysis for prototypes and production units.
- Specify and select components, considering manufacturability and production constraints.
- Design for test and manufacture; support prototype builds, production test and manufacturing handover.
- Work collaboratively with FPGA and software engineers to define interfaces and resolve integration issues.
- Provide constructive design reviews and documentation for the hardware development lifecycle.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Experience creating schematic designs for embedded products, focused on quality, testing and manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with board bring-up, hardware debugging and root-cause analysis in the lab.
- Experience implementing design for test and design for manufacture practices and supporting production issues.
- Working knowledge of board-level interfaces and protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI and JTAG, and awareness of signalling standards and higher-speed interfaces (e.g. DDR, LVDS).
- Ability to work effectively in multi-discipline teams and provide clear, constructive design reviews.
Nice-to-have:
- PCB layout experience with tools such as Altium Designer.
- Experience developing or supporting boundary-scan tests (e.g. XJTAG) in production.
- Experience with microcontroller-based board design and associated boot/debug flows.
- Ability to write or modify simple embedded firmware for bring-up, test and debug.
- Mixed-signal design experience (for example, power-supply design) and awareness of component availability and lead-time management.
