Job Title
Hardware Application Engineer – IP Camera / IoT
Role Summary
Design and deliver hardware solutions and reference platforms for Qualcomm IE‑IOT SoC products used in IP camera and IoT applications. The role combines schematic/PCB design, board bring‑up, validation, and cross‑functional coordination with ODMs and internal teams to move projects from concept to production.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical candidates have roughly 3–7 years of relevant hardware engineering or applications experience (see Education Requirements for exact minimums tied to degree level).
Responsibilities
Provide hardware application engineering across the product lifecycle, from schematic and PCB design through debug, validation, and production support.
- Design, develop, and evaluate electronic systems for IE‑IOT SoC platforms, including digital and analog circuits for IoT and industrial applications.
- Create schematics and guide PCB layout execution; select components and review board designs for manufacturability.
- Collaborate with ODMs, manufacturers, and internal mechanical/thermal/SI/validation teams to fabricate and bring up hardware systems.
- Perform feasibility studies and specialized analyses such as signal integrity and power integrity to verify performance and compliance.
- Lead hardware bring‑up, debug, root cause analysis, and triage using standard lab instruments.
- Develop customer‑specific hardware/system requirements and provide technical training and product demonstrations to customers and partners.
- Prepare technical documentation, present design reviews, and report execution status to stakeholders.
- Resolve architectural and design issues across system and board levels to meet power, performance, cost, and compliance targets.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands‑on experience required on day one; preferred items are listed separately.
-
Board‑level design: system integration, schematic capture, circuit simulation, and experience with multi‑layer PCB design and power delivery networks.
-
High‑speed interfaces & SI/PI: familiarity with PCIe, LPDDR/DDR, USB, MIPI, HDMI, GbE and experience performing signal/power integrity analysis and compliance work.
-
Validation & debug: hands‑on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers; experience leading bring‑up and root cause investigations.
-
Tools: Cadence Allegro, Siemens/Mentor Xpedition, or Altium for schematic/layout; MS Office 365; familiarity applying AI tools to engineering tasks is a plus.
-
Collaboration & communication: effective cross‑functional teamwork with internal teams and external ODM/JDM partners; clear verbal and written technical communication.
-
Manufacturing & DFM: ability to coordinate with fabricators and manufacturing contacts for prototype and production execution.
-
Other: ability to travel internationally as required by project schedules.
Preferred (nice‑to‑have):
- Experience in the IoT industry and familiarity with key IoT component suppliers.
- Experience with DFM tools such as Valor or CAM350 and EMI mitigation techniques.
- Design experience across RF, analog, and high‑speed digital circuits (DDR5/6, HDMI, PCIe, SATA, MIPI, USB).
- Experience with Agile or similar PLM software and broader hardware system validation experience.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications (any one of the following): Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of hardware engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields with 2+ years of relevant experience. Related work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree as described above.
