Graphics ASICs Hardware Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Graphics ASICs Hardware Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver RTL and microarchitecture for Adreno GPU subsystems (shader processing, graphics pipelines, memory subsystem, interconnect, power and system-level design) for Snapdragon compute platforms. Work on architecture, RTL implementation, verification, silicon bring-up and performance/power optimization.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical hires range from experienced engineers to senior engineers; the role commonly requires several years of ASIC/RTL design experience (rough guideline: roughly 3β20 years of industry experience depending on scope and education).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Micro-architect and specify RTL blocks and modules within the GPU architecture.
- Implement RTL for designed micro-architectures and support synthesis flows.
- Develop and execute verification, test plans and coverage-driven validation; debug at RTL and silicon bring-up stages.
- Evaluate hardware feasibility of algorithms and translate requirements into hardware designs.
- Optimize designs for performance, power, clock speed and silicon cost.
- Troubleshoot post-silicon issues related to the delivered design.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience. Items marked as "Nice-to-have" are beneficial but not mandatory.
Must-have
- Hands-on RTL design using Verilog/SystemVerilog and experience with synthesis flows (Synopsys or similar).
- Experience in design verification, test-plan development, coverage-based verification and RTL/silicon debug.
- Practical experience with microarchitecture and RTL for ASIC/SoC blocks (e.g., pipelines, caches, controllers, interconnect).
- Experience applying performance and low-power design techniques and doing power/performance tradeoffs.
- Proficiency with scripting/programming for design and verification (C/C++ and Python).
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have
- Direct GPU RTL design experience (shader cores, graphics pipelines) or experience with CPU/DSP/ML/video/display/camera blocks.
- Exposure to Graphics APIs such as OpenGL, Vulkan or Direct3D.
- Background in computer architecture and computer arithmetic.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 6+ years of relevant work experience; OR Master's degree in a related field with 5+ years; OR PhD in a related field with 4+ years of relevant work experience. Related work experience in software, hardware or systems engineering may be considered in lieu of specific degree details as described above.
