Graduate ML Hardware Power and Performance Engineer
ArmJob Title
Graduate ML Hardware Power and Performance Engineer
Role Summary
Entry-level engineering role within Arm's ML and Neural Network hardware team, focused on measuring, analysing and improving hardware power, performance and area for next-generation IP. You will work with cross-functional engineering teams and international centres to characterise workloads, diagnose bottlenecks, and propose hardware and build-level optimisations.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Graduate). Suitable for candidates on-track to complete or recently completed a university degree; prior professional experience is not required. Typical experience: 0β3 years.
Responsibilities
Work with experienced engineers to evaluate and improve ML hardware power and performance.
- Characterize workloads and measure hardware performance, power consumption, and area.
- Identify and investigate performance and power bottlenecks in hardware builds.
- Analyse how architectural and build choices affect power, performance and area.
- Develop scripts and tools to automate measurement and analysis workflows.
- Collaborate with design, verification and implementation teams to influence hardware decisions.
- Work across Arm international centres and teams on next-generation IP projects.
- Learn and apply methodologies for low-power and high-performance hardware design.
Requirements
Core attributes and skills expected for applicants. Degree requirements are summarized separately under Education Requirements.
- Must-have: Curiosity about programming and scripting; basic programming/scripting ability (for example Python) and interest in solving engineering problems.
- Must-have: Strong analytical skills and ability to understand complex systems; good written and verbal communication.
- Must-have: Willingness to learn new tools, technologies and methodologies; collaborative mindset.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital hardware description languages (SystemVerilog, VHDL) or basic digital hardware understanding.
- Nice-to-have: Basic knowledge of computer architecture and low-power build concepts.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Python or other scripting languages and with physical implementation concepts (synthesis, place & route, static timing analysis).
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Machine Learning/AI fundamentals or interest in AI workflow tools.
Education Requirements
Candidates should hold, or be on track to hold by programme start, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. An academic transcript is requested as part of the application materials. Equivalent practical experience is not listed explicitly; degree-on-track status is accepted for graduates.
