GPU Systems Validation Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
GPU Systems Validation Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Work on bare-metal driver/firmware development, validation and system-level debug for an SoC GPU subsystem. Collaborate with system architects, software, hardware and verification engineers to reproduce, isolate and resolve issues found in pre-silicon and post-silicon validation and customer returns.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting indicates typical experience of 5β7 years with a Masters degree or 6β9 years with a Bachelors degree; minimum experience expectations vary by degree.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementing and validating low-level GPU drivers and owning system-level test and debug activities.
- Deliver and maintain low-level hardware drivers for the SoC GPU subsystem.
- Develop, execute and manage validation and test plans (pre-silicon and post-silicon).
- Program and optimise device drivers in C/C++ and assembly where required.
- Investigate and debug low-level software and hardware issues; lead root-cause analysis and resolution.
- Automate tests and analysis using Python scripting and test frameworks.
- Refactor and maintain codebase to improve reliability and testability.
- Use lab equipment (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) and vendor debug tools in failure analysis.
- Coordinate with distributed teams across geographies to drive issue closure.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred capabilities that support leadership and validation strategy are listed separately.
Must-have- 3+ years experience in low-level software development (C, C++, assembly) working on embedded/SoC platforms.
- Strong knowledge of ARM processors and their toolchains.
- Proven debugging skills for low-level software/hardware interactions.
- Experience with test automation and integration methodologies; able to script in Python for data analysis and automation.
- Experience developing validation methodologies and running large-scale validation campaigns.
- Familiarity with source control (GIT, Perforce) and defect-tracking tools (JIRA).
- Experience using lab equipment such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes and vendor debug platforms (e.g. Lauterbach Trace32).
- Good verbal and written communication; experience working with distributed/global teams.
- Familiarity with DFT/DFD concepts and RMA/debug flow for customer returns and high-volume manufacturing failures.
- Experience designing validation strategy and creating scalable validation frameworks and infrastructure.
- Proven track record leading debug efforts across pre-silicon and post-silicon stages.
- Mentorship experience and providing technical direction to distributed validation teams.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science or a related technical field. Preferred: Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields. The posting also accepts PhD and notes equivalent practical experience as an alternative where appropriate.
