Job Title

GPU & AI Accelerator Hardware Design Undergraduate Intern

Role Summary

Hands-on undergraduate internship on GPU and AI accelerator hardware teams. Work with experienced engineers to design, validate, and bring up board- and power-level hardware for next-generation GPU and accelerator platforms.

Work spans PCB schematic and layout, power-delivery and circuit design, simulation, board bring-up, validation, debugging, and automation while collaborating with cross-functional teams (layout, thermal-mechanical, firmware, software, validation).

Experience Level

Entry-level (Undergraduate intern). Candidates should be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree and have at least ~3 months of relevant educational or work experience; typical experience level is 0–1 years.

Responsibilities

Primary hands-on responsibilities and learning outcomes for the internship:

  • Support GPU and AI accelerator board and power design from concept through bring-up and validation.
  • Assist with PCB schematic design, layout, component selection, and Bill of Materials (BOM) development.
  • Troubleshoot high-speed board, power, digital, and analog design issues during bring-up and validation.
  • Use engineering and simulation tools (e.g., Cadence, Sigrity, SIMetrix, Mathcad, MATLAB, PowerDC) for analysis and verification.
  • Participate in board bring-up, characterization, validation, and hardware debug using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, thermal measurement tools) and soldering/rework where required.
  • Evaluate power requirements and power-delivery solutions for GPU and accelerator designs.
  • Develop or improve test methods and use scripting (Python or similar) to automate measurements and data collection.
  • Gain exposure to microcontroller and FPGA firmware design and debugging and collaborate with firmware and software teams.
  • Research and evaluate technologies to improve future hardware designs and engineering processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for initial consideration, plus preferred skills that are a plus.

  • Must-have: ~3+ months of educational or work experience with hardware design principles and PCB layout techniques.
  • Must-have: Experience with board bring-up, debugging tools, and electrical measurements.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with design software such as Cadence, Altium, or similar tools.
  • Must-have: Awareness of AI acceleration hardware and computing architectures.
  • Must-have: Basic lab skills (oscilloscope, thermal measurement) and willingness to support soldering/rework activities.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with discrete graphics add-in cards or mobile discrete graphics systems.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong system-level knowledge of PC technologies (x86 architecture, CPU, memory, PCIe, display, power management, 3D graphics).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience building PCs or hands-on computer hardware experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Programming skills in Python or similar languages for automation and data collection.
  • Behavioral traits: curiosity, problem-solving, attention to detail, collaboration, clear communication, initiative, and proactive/innovative mindset.

Education Requirements

Candidate must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering, or another relevant science/engineering field. Requirements may be met through a combination of coursework, lab work, internships, research, or equivalent practical experience. The role expects at least ~3 months of relevant educational or work experience.
