Job Title

General Support Engineer – Aerospace, Defense & Government (ADG)

Role Summary

Provide hands-on board- and system-level technical support for FPGA-based platforms used in aerospace, defense, and government programs. Work in lab and customer environments to bring up, validate, debug, and sustain mission-critical systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically 3+ years of relevant hardware support, system validation, or board-level engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include lab and field support, debugging, and collaboration across hardware, FPGA, and software teams.

  • Perform hardware bring-up, system validation, and debug for FPGA-based platforms in lab and customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues including signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and integration problems.
  • Support high-speed interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, and Ethernet and resolve performance issues.
  • Develop and execute validation plans, debug strategies, and test procedures.
  • Modify and debug FPGA designs using Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL to support applications and reference designs.
  • Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers) for diagnostics and verification.
  • Document findings, solutions, and best practices to improve support and deployed platforms.
  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve system-level challenges.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and conditions for the role.

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware support, system validation, or board-level engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, lab debug, and troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and system-level integration.
  • Knowledge and troubleshooting experience with high-speed digital interfaces (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Experience with RTL design and development using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Programming/scripting experience for automation and analysis (Tcl, Python, Java, or similar).
  • Hands-on use of lab equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Ability to work effectively in mission-critical, high-reliability environments and communicate clearly with technical and customer stakeholders.
  • Security requirement: must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; inability to obtain clearance may remove employment offer.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or government programs.
  • Familiarity with Altera FPGA platforms and toolchain.
  • Understanding of SI/PI principles and embedded HW/SW integration.
  • Active or prior U.S. security clearance.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
