FY27 Intern - Compute DSP/AI Processor Engineering Internship (Canada, 16 months)
Role Summary
Internship on the Compute DSP/AI Processor team in Markham, ON, working on ASIC hardware IP and sub-systems. The intern will support design, verification, and modelling under the guidance of an experienced engineer.
Work includes RTL/HLS implementation, verification, integration, and participation across ASIC development phases from specification to post-silicon debug.
Experience Level
Intern / Entry-level. This role is for students with limited professional experience. Applicants must be available for a 16-month placement (May 2027 β August 2028).
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Implement modules in hardware description languages (SystemVerilog, HLS C/C++, SystemC).
- Write and run tests at module and sub-system levels using UVM and SystemVerilog.
- Define and integrate module interfaces into larger subsystems.
- Develop reference and bus-functional models in C++, SystemC, or Python.
- Build verification and automation scripts/tools using Python, Perl, or TCL.
- Implement and debug synthesis constraints and static timing closure issues.
- Contribute to silicon debug, analysis, and correlation.
- Perform power analysis and contribute to power modelling and reporting.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills:
Must-have
- Practical knowledge of digital logic and digital design fundamentals.
- Experience with Verilog or VHDL.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-have
- Relevant academic or personal project experience in ASIC/hardware design or verification.
- Previous industry experience such as internships or co-ops.
- Knowledge of computer and multimedia architecture (CPU, interconnect, video, display, camera, graphics).
- Familiarity with digital design building blocks (memories, FIFOs, clock gating) and ASIC tool flows (synthesis, simulation).
- Experience with SystemVerilog, SystemC, HLS C/C++ and verification methodologies (UVM, assertions, coverage-driven verification).
- Scripting skills (Python, Perl, TCL, Shell) and version control (Git, ClearCase).
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Expected graduation date of November 2027 or later. Must be available for a 16-month internship (May 2027 β August 2028). At least 1+ years of academic experience programming in C, C++, or Python.
