Role Summary
Lead and drive functional safety activities across ASIC IP and SoC development, integrating safety into architecture, design, verification, and release workflows. Work with cross-functional teams, customers, and assessors to produce auditable safety work products that support automotive certification.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. 6β10 years of experience in functional safety engineering for automotive semiconductor, IP, or SoC development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining safety requirements, performing safety analyses, and ensuring safety mechanisms are implemented and verified across IP and SoC projects.
- Drive functional safety activities across IP and SoC lifecycles from architecture through verification and release.
- Develop and review safety requirements, Technical Safety Concepts, and safety work products compliant with ISO 26262.
- Perform safety analyses such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and Dependent Failure Analysis to identify and mitigate failure modes.
- Define, implement, and evaluate safety mechanisms and diagnostic coverage targets at IP, subsystem, and SoC levels.
- Collaborate with Architecture, RTL Design, and Verification teams to integrate safety into design and validation workflows.
- Interface with customers and external safety assessors to support audits, reviews, and certification activities.
- Document safety analyses, traceability matrices, and compliance evidence for reviews and assessments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for this role.
- 6β10 years of functional safety engineering experience focused on automotive semiconductor, IP, or SoC development.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 standards, processes, and hardware compliance requirements.
- Proven experience developing and reviewing safety requirements, Technical Safety Concepts, and related safety deliverables.
- Hands-on expertise in FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and Dependent Failure Analysis methodologies.
- Experience defining and evaluating safety mechanisms, diagnostic coverage, and fault mitigation strategies at the IP or SoC level.
- Understanding of semiconductor product development and verification flows and ability to work independently with cross-functional teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for assessor-facing documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Nice-to-have: experience with automotive IPs, networking/communication IPs, or other safety-critical products.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
