Job Title

Functional Safety Architect (f/m/d)

Role Summary

The Functional Safety Architect is part of the systems and functional safety team responsible for defining and standardizing functional safety architectures across PMIC product lines. The role partners with chip and system architects, safety assessors, and product teams to produce reusable safety definitions that meet standards while minimizing area and cost.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 10+ years of relevant experience in product definition and functional safety.

Responsibilities

Define, standardize and validate system-level and component-level functional safety for power management ICs and integrate requirements with MCU/SoC systems.

  • Standardize functional safety (FuSa) requirement definitions across PMIC products and building blocks.
  • Translate FuSa standards, customer inputs, and system requirements into product requirements and architectures.
  • Propose implementation architectures with chip and system architects and advise design teams on safety features.
  • Interface with safety assessors to obtain pre-approval for standard FuSa blocks and lead FuSa assessments.
  • Create and maintain a library of reusable FuSa definitions targeting product families.
  • Review proposed implementations, simulation, and validation results to ensure requirements are met with minimal complexity and area.
  • Drive tool-based FuSa workflow and methodology; investigate automation and AI-assisted documentation where applicable.
  • Mentor and guide FuSa managers and product-level engineers; provide training to internal teams and customers.
  • Engage with customers and travel for meetings as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors for success in this role.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product definition and functional safety for semiconductor products; demonstrable track record of product definitions and launches.
  • Deep knowledge of functional safety standards and compliance (e.g., ISO 26262, AEC-Q100) and experience with FuSa assessment processes.
  • Strong understanding of system-level power requirements, board-level integration, and MCU/MPU/SoC system interactions.
  • Experience with functional safety tool flows, requirements-management tools, and modeling tools (e.g., Simplis) or equivalent.
  • High-level understanding of mixed-signal design flow to mass production and the ability to balance trade-offs between performance, power, area, and cost.
  • Proven leadership in technical reviews, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration with architects and assessors.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with customers and stakeholders; able to deliver under tight schedules and work independently or in teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for internal and customer meetings.
  • Nice-to-have: direct experience with PMIC or other power ICs and familiarity with developing family-level product concepts.

Education Requirements

BSc or Master’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent practical experience). Relevant fields include electrical/electronic engineering or related technical disciplines; equivalent professional experience accepted.
