Job Title

Functional Safety Architect

Role Summary

The Functional Safety Architect defines and standardizes system-level and product-level functional safety (FuSa) architectures for PMIC and power-related product lines. The role partners with chip and system architects, safety assessors, and product teams to produce reusable FuSa definitions that balance safety goals with implementation cost and area.

Reports to the systems and functional safety team; provides technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-team alignment on MCU/SoC and PMIC safety requirements.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 10+ years of relevant experience in product definition and functional safety.

Responsibilities

Lead the creation, alignment and adoption of standard functional safety definitions and workflows across PMIC products and system-level power domains.

  • Standardize FuSa requirement definitions and drive common, minimal-complexity implementations across product families.
  • Review product FuSa definitions against industry best practices and safety standards; propose documented standard building blocks.
  • Translate inputs from standards, customers, and system architects into product requirements and implementation architectures.
  • Interface with safety assessors for pre-approval and ensure alignment with MCU/SoC FuSa teams.
  • Create and maintain a library of reusable FuSa definitions and documentation for power subsystems.
  • Advise and mentor FuSa managers and product engineers; lead technical reviews and training for internal teams and customers.
  • Drive tool-based FuSa workflows and methodologies; investigate automation and AI-assisted definition/documentation approaches.
  • Review simulation and validation results; ensure implementations meet requirements while minimizing area, cost, and complexity.
  • Customer-facing activities and travel for alignment, requirements gathering, and presentations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors required to perform the role.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product definition and functional safety, preferably including work on PMICs or power ICs.
  • Deep knowledge of safety and compliance standards such as ISO 26262 and AEC-Q100 and experience with FuSa assessment processes.
  • Strong understanding of system-level power requirements and board-level integration challenges for MCU/MPU/SoC systems.
  • Experience defining or using FuSa tool flows and requirements-management tools; familiarity with Simplis or equivalent modelling tools.
  • High-level knowledge of mixed-signal design flow through to mass production.
  • Proven track record of product definitions and product launches; able to balance trade-offs among performance, power, area, and cost.
  • Leadership, mentorship, and ability to contribute significant technical direction across projects and programs.
  • Effective communicator with customers and stakeholders; available to travel as required.

Education Requirements

BSc or Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
