Job Title

FPGA Prototyping Lead

Role Summary

Lead the FPGA prototyping strategy and execution for complex SoC programs within the front-end design and integration team. Work with Architecture, IP Design, Physical Design, Verification, Software, and Product Engineering to enable early hardware validation and first-pass silicon success.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects extensive experience in FPGA design and SoC prototyping; the posting indicates a typical profile of 12+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining strategy, delivering prototype platforms, and providing technical leadership across multiple teams.

  • Define and own FPGA prototyping architecture, methodology roadmap, and platform strategy for complex SoCs (partitioning, interconnects, clocking, debug infrastructure, high-speed I/O).
  • Lead development and deployment of FPGA prototype platforms: RTL adaptation, implementation flows, verification infrastructure, regression environments, and system-level debug.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with Architecture, RTL Design, Verification, Emulation, Software, and Firmware for early validation and software bring-up.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to FPGA prototyping engineers; lead design reviews and drive execution of program milestones.
  • Establish engineering processes, implementation methodologies, documentation standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the prototyping organization in architecture and program reviews and in customer- and vendor-facing technical discussions.
  • Partner with EDA and FPGA tool vendors to drive tool adoption and resolve complex technical challenges.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role; preferences noted separately.

  • Extensive, hands-on experience in FPGA design, implementation, and multi-FPGA SoC prototyping.
  • Proven technical leadership on large-scale semiconductor programs and experience mentoring engineering teams.
  • Expertise with AMD/Xilinx Vivado and Vitis toolchains and strong SystemVerilog and/or Verilog skills.
  • Deep knowledge of FPGA timing closure, floorplanning, CDC analysis, pipelining, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with board bring-up, partitioning across multiple FPGAs, and debug infrastructure for system-level validation.
  • Strong understanding of modern SoC architectures and common protocols (CPUs, caches, memory subsystems, NoC/interconnects, AXI, PCIe, DDR, etc.).

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with Synopsys HAPS and/or Cadence Protium platforms.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, USB, and HBM.
  • Prior collaboration with EDA and FPGA tool vendors on platform or flow development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
