FPGA Prototyping Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Provide pre-sale and post-sale technical support and deployment expertise for Synopsys HAPS FPGA-based prototyping solutions. Work with customers to partition large ASIC designs, map them to FPGA hardware, enable software bring-up, and improve prototyping flows and automation.

This role sits in the HAPS Application Engineering team within the Go-to-market organization and collaborates with sales, R&D, and global application engineers to deliver and scale prototype deployments.

Experience Level

Senior — requires substantial field experience. Typical guidance: Bachelor's degree with 10+ years relevant experience or Master's degree with 8+ years.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on delivering customer-facing prototyping solutions, troubleshooting complex FPGA issues, and creating reusable methods and materials.

• Provide pre-sale evaluations and post-sale technical support for HAPS hardware and ProtoCompiler software.
• Prototype multi-million gate ASIC designs: partitioning, FPGA synthesis, system planning, and RTL debug to enable software and system validation teams.
• Diagnose complex design issues at customer sites, resolve timing closure problems, and optimize prototyping flows.
• Develop and deliver training, application notes, and technical articles from deployment experience.
• Collaborate with R&D to escalate product quality issues and propose feature improvements.
• Travel to customer sites as needed to support deployments and prototype bring-up.
• Implement automation scripts and flow improvements using TCL and Python.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

• Must-have: Hands-on experience with FPGA-based prototyping and mapping complex ASIC designs to FPGA platforms.
• Must-have: Strong knowledge of digital design fundamentals and HDLs (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog) with experience in synthesis and simulation flows.
• Must-have: Proven ability to debug FPGA designs and resolve complex timing constraints, particularly on Xilinx Ultrascale or Versal devices.
• Must-have: Strong scripting skills in TCL and Python for automation and flow development.
• Must-have: Experience working directly with customers in technical support, field applications, or consulting roles.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Synopsys verification tools such as VCS, Verdi, or VC Formal.

Education Requirements
