Role Summary
Manage and lead FPGA engineering teams within the Digital Technology group to deliver embedded programmable-logic solutions for defense programs. The role combines program/development management with functional people management across business units such as IRCM, RFCIS, and Targeting.
Primary responsibilities include ensuring program performance, engineering quality, process adherence, staffing, and career development for a team of engineers (up to ~15).
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical experience guidance: BS in a STEM field with 8+ years applicable experience, or MS in a STEM field with 6+ years applicable experience.
Responsibilities
The position has two primary functions: Development Manager (program-level execution) and Functional Manager (people leadership).
- Lead program/project execution: monitor performance, manage risk, report status, and control cost and schedule.
- Ensure technical quality and adherence to engineering process and best practices across FPGA projects.
- Manage program tasks, staffing, and resource forecasting.
- Provide front-line management for engineers: set goals, conduct reviews, deliver performance feedback, and execute appraisals.
- Coordinate training, career development, hiring activities, and personnel issue resolution with HR.
- Facilitate team communication and promote organizational initiatives and process improvements.
- Support proposals and business-development alignment between technical capabilities and customer needs.
Requirements
Must-have skills and qualifications required for the role.
- Proven experience executing the full engineering lifecycle: requirements, design, development, integration, verification/validation, and sustainment.
- Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) or equivalent program/project management experience under cost and schedule constraints.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA design and full life-cycle FPGA development methodologies.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing cross-functional engineering teams on complex technical projects.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Interest and experience in process improvement and leveraging engineering best practices.
- Ability to travel (~10%); relocation assistance may be available.
- U.S. citizenship required and ability to hold a Secret security clearance; interim Secret clearance required prior to start.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with IRCM/RFCIS, digital signal processing, Agile product development, CI/CD, or product-line management.
- Management experience and experience connecting technical capabilities to customer/business development.
- Current Secret or ability to obtain Top-Secret clearance preferred.
Education Requirements
BS in a STEM field (required with ~8+ years applicable experience) or MS in a STEM field (required with ~6+ years applicable experience). Advanced degrees in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Engineering Management are preferred. Specific degree-field and years guidance taken from the employer's basic and preferred qualifications.
