FPGA Intern (Summer 2027)
Role Summary
Internship on the FPGA team at Astranis working on RTL development, hardware bring-up, and FPGA-based system testing for satellite communications hardware.
The role partners with electrical and software engineers to implement and verify FPGA designs that interface with high-speed data converters, memories, and microcontrollers.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship intended for students currently enrolled at a four-year university. Internships typically last 12 weeks.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities during the internship include:
- Develop RTL for FPGA-targeted applications (Verilog/SystemVerilog).
- Integrate and test designs on multiple FPGA families and toolchains.
- Interface FPGAs with peripherals including high-speed ADCs/DACs, memories, and MCUs.
- Write software and testbenches to exercise RTL on hardware.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineers for system integration and debugging.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and legal requirements:
- U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency (Green Card), or other protected status required for compliance with U.S. export regulations.
- Hands-on interest in hardware development and ability to work in a fast-paced, lab-oriented environment.
- Experience designing, implementing, and testing high-throughput FPGA systems.
- Proficiency with Verilog or SystemVerilog for synthesis.
Nice-to-have (preferred):
- Experience with UVM and advanced SystemVerilog verification methodologies.
- Familiarity with Xilinx FPGAs, Vivado, and TCL scripting.
- Experience with high-speed data converters (ADCs, DACs, JESD204B) and circuit-level debugging.
- Background in digital communications (e.g., LDPC), DSP, RF/IQ domains, or space-based systems.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a four-year university and pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience. Internship roles are for students; if you have already graduated, the posting advises applying to an entry-level Associate Engineer role instead.
