FPGA Intern

Role Summary

10-week internship (starting June 2027) based in Trondheim, Norway. The intern will work with the hardware engineering team to build and run FPGA-based tests of Arm IP, operate physical systems, and improve FPGA implementation and test automation flows.

Position includes mentoring, hands-on learning, and the possibility to be considered for future graduate roles based on performance.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students currently enrolled in higher education (undergraduate or graduate).

Responsibilities

Typical duties for the role include:

  • Build and deploy FPGA images to validate the latest Arm IP using current FPGA platforms.
  • Integrate and test on physical hardware systems; execute hardware bring-up and validation.
  • Automate and improve FPGA implementation and test flows to increase efficiency and repeatability.
  • Document test procedures, results, and share findings with the verification team.
  • Collaborate with engineers across the team and participate in design and verification reviews.

Requirements

Must-have and helpful skills; degree expectations are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Must have: Interest in processors and digital systems; exposure to FPGA prototyping or design (Verilog/VHDL); competent Linux and scripting/coding skills (e.g. Python); familiarity with digital design implementation flows; ability to work hands-on with physical systems.
  • Ability to write clear documentation and communicate technical ideas; good collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in Norway for the full internship duration; Arm cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role.
  • Nice to have: Experience using AI in technical workflows; prior FPGA implementation or prototyping project experience; creativity in problem solving.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a higher education degree (Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Candidates with alternative degrees will be considered if they have relevant experience. Interns must be returning to their course of study after the internship.
