Job Title

FPGA Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Develop FPGA firmware for embedded photonic systems used in mission-critical autonomous platforms. Work in a small engineering team to implement deterministic low-latency processing, timing, and closed-loop control.

The company is based in Austin, TX. The role is remote with occasional office visits to Austin; local candidates are preferred.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not state specific years of experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and validating FPGA firmware and related hardware interfaces for real-time autonomous systems.

  • Design and implement FPGA firmware in VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Implement deterministic, low-latency data paths and timing-critical logic.
  • Develop sensor interfacing and hardware control logic.
  • Ensure timing closure and perform FPGA optimization and resource tradeoffs.
  • Implement and validate closed-loop control and digital signal processing algorithms on FPGA.
  • Integrate firmware with system-level software and perform hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software engineers to meet mission requirements.
  • Travel to Austin occasionally for on-site work and team integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints follow.

Must-have:

  • Proven FPGA firmware development experience using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience with sensor interfacing and hardware control on FPGA platforms.
  • Expertise in timing closure, FPGA optimization, and resource management.
  • Experience implementing closed-loop control systems and low-latency digital signal processing on FPGA.
  • Background in autonomous systems, robotics, or navigation technologies.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder).
  • Ability to travel to Austin, TX occasionally for office visits.

Nice-to-have:

  • Local to Austin or within easy travel distance.
  • Experience with photonics or optoelectronic system control.
  • Familiarity with hardware verification, timing analysis tools, and FPGA toolchains.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
