Job Title

FPGA Engineer β€” LEO KMM FPGA

Role Summary

Design, implement, validate, and release FPGA-based digital solutions for Amazon's LEO satellite communication and networking systems. The role focuses on creating digital logic for networking functions, owning FPGA bitstreams through development and lab validation, and integrating FPGA designs with firmware, RF, and system-level components.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting specifies 5+ years of professional (non-internship) software or engineering experience and related technical leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA designs and lead integration and validation across system disciplines.

  • Own one or more FPGA bitstreams through uArchitecture, RTL design, physical implementation, timing closure, simulation, and lab silicon validation.
  • Create and release FPGA solutions implementing networking and digital communication functions.
  • Collaborate with network and digital communications architects to define and implement FPGA-targeted functions.
  • Build FPGA prototypes to validate architectural and design trade-offs.
  • Work with hardware, firmware, and software teams to bring up and test systems combining FPGA, RF, firmware, and networking.
  • Perform trade-off analysis to optimize cost, size, power, performance, and feature set.

Requirements

Must-have technical background, eligibility, and leadership experience.

  • U.S. export-control eligibility: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card), or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee.
  • 5+ years of professional (non-internship) software or engineering experience.
  • 5+ years programming experience in at least one software language.
  • 5+ years leading design or architecture efforts (design patterns, reliability, scaling); experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering lead.
  • Practical experience with FPGA design flows: architecture/RTL design, synthesis/place-and-route, timing closure, simulation, and lab-based silicon validation.
  • Experience implementing digital logic for networking or digital communications functions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, operations).
  • Experience with system integration involving firmware, RF, and networking stacks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent practical experience.
