Job Title
FPGA Engineer IV
Role Summary
The FPGA Engineer IV designs, develops, verifies, and integrates FPGA-based and accelerated imaging solutions for advanced medical video camera systems. This senior engineering role provides technical leadership across FPGA development, embedded processors, GPU/edge platforms, and AI-enabled image processing, working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, manufacturable products.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires extensive FPGA design experience (see Requirements).
Responsibilities
Lead and execute FPGA design and system-level work for medical imaging products.
- Design synthesizable Verilog/SystemVerilog for FPGA implementations and create simulation/verification environments.
- Analyze resource utilization, timing, power, and system performance; perform timing closure and optimization.
- Troubleshoot FPGA, hardware, and software integration issues and support system bring-up.
- Select FPGA devices and supporting components to meet system requirements.
- Provide technical leadership: define FPGA/system requirements, contribute to system architecture, and mentor engineering teams.
- Architect and evaluate solutions involving FPGAs, embedded processors, GPUs, edge computing, and AI inference for accelerated imaging.
- Develop verification strategies, produce design documentation and specifications, and support integration/validation and regulatory-quality processes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed below.
- 8+ years of FPGA design experience (employer-stated expectation for this level).
- Expert-level experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog and creating simulation/verification environments.
- Strong understanding of FPGA architectures, synthesis flows, timing analysis, power analysis, and resource optimization.
- Proven track record troubleshooting FPGA designs and hardware/software integration issues.
- Experience with FPGA design tools and achieving timing closure in complex designs.
- Familiarity using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve code quality, verification, documentation, and productivity.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills; able to produce clear specifications and analyses.
- Nice-to-have: GPU programming and AI inference deployment experience; knowledge of edge-computing platforms and accelerated computing technologies; embedded software interfacing to FPGAs; video timing/interface standards; experience with medical device quality systems; prior mentoring or team leadership.
Education Requirements
Employer requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline β or equivalent practical experience. A Master's degree in a related field is listed as preferred. Related fields include electrical/computer engineering or similar technical disciplines; equivalent experience is acceptable per the employer statement.
