Job Title

FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design, implement, and optimize FPGA-based solutions for radar, electronic warfare (EW), and related signal-processing systems within the Warfare Systems group of HII Mission Technologies. Work includes system integration, verification/validation, and laboratory-to-field test support for C5ISR and defense-focused projects.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience range is mid-career; see Education Requirements for the explicit experience-to-degree equivalencies provided by the employer.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on FPGA design and system-level engineering across development, test, and field deployment.

  • Design and implement FPGA logic and signal-processing algorithms for EW and radar applications.
  • Perform system integration, verification, and validation across hardware and software components.
  • Conduct RF chain analysis and radar system performance analysis; support related trade studies and requirements allocation.
  • Develop and execute test plans, test procedures, and test reports; perform hands-on lab and field test execution.
  • Support sensor system integration and instrument-level testing, including networking and test automation where applicable.
  • Identify technical risks and support technical/functional leadership in mitigation and design decisions.
  • Deploy to customer/test sites for extended periods (typically 2–3 weeks) as required.

Requirements

Concise list of must-have skills, clearance, physical and availability needs.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance; a Secret clearance is required to start.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in Radar or Electronic Warfare system design and/or test.
  • Practical knowledge of EW and radar signal-processing techniques and analysis tools (MATLAB commonly used).
  • Hands-on experience with integration, test, and verification across algorithms, software, hardware, and networking.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and deploy for multi-week assignments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to work outdoors in adverse weather when required.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience with RF instrumentation, sensor system integration tools, and lab automation.

Education Requirements

Employer-provided equivalencies: 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; 0 years experience with a PhD or JD in a related field; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 9 years relevant experience. Fields referenced as "related" imply technical areas such as electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, signal processing, or similar. Equivalent practical experience is accepted per the posted equivalencies.
