Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, and optimize FPGA-based solutions for signal processing and electronic warfare/radar applications within HII Mission Technologies' Warfare Systems group. Work includes system integration, verification and validation, test execution, and support for hardware/software subsystems supporting U.S. military and federal customers.
Experience Level
Mid-level. See Education Requirements for the experience-by-degree guidance provided by the employer.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve translating requirements into hardware and software solutions, supporting test and integration, and performing system-level analyses.
- Design, implement, and optimize FPGA logic for signal processing and system functions.
- Perform system integration, verification, validation, and test execution across lab environments.
- Conduct functional and timeline analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition.
- Analyze RF chains and radar/system performance; support sensor system integration and test.
- Develop test plans, procedures, and reports; support customer deliverables and technical publications.
- Identify technical risk and support technical/functional leadership in risk mitigation.
- Support deployment and travel as required, including extended field deployments (typically 2β3 weeks).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, clearances, and physical capabilities for on-site engineering and test activities.
- Practical experience with FPGA development (HDL, synthesis, timing closure, toolflows).
- Experience with signal processing algorithms and tools such as MATLAB.
- Interest and experience in Electronic Warfare (EW) or Radar systems, including RF chain analysis.
- Hands-on test, integration, and verification experience across hardware, software, and networking.
- Proven skills in algorithm implementation and system-level debugging.
- Ability to travel for extended periods and deploy as required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in adverse weather, climb ladders, and tolerate confined spaces and temperature extremes.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with advanced checks; Secret-level clearance is required to start.
Education Requirements
Employer specifies degree-linked minimum experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field (qualifies with ~5 years relevant experience), Master's degree in a related field (~3 years relevant experience), PhD or JD (0 years experience), or High School diploma/equivalent with ~9 years relevant experience. Fields are stated as "related field" (technical/engineering disciplines relevant to FPGA, EW, radar, or signal processing); equivalent practical experience is accepted per the employer mapping.
