FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Develop FPGA-based hardware solutions for safety-critical avionics products in accordance with DO-254 guidance. Support design, verification, hardware validation, and certification activities as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. This is an on-site position in Exton, PA.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career β€” typically 2+ years of FPGA or ASIC development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include FPGA design, verification, and lab validation across the product lifecycle.

  • Design, implement, and verify FPGA logic targeting Xilinx FPGAs using Vivado.
  • Develop RTL in Verilog and/or VHDL and maintain requirements traceability and design documentation.
  • Perform RTL simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, place-and-route, and timing closure activities.
  • Execute hardware validation, board bring-up, lab testing, and system-level debugging.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Software, PCB Design, and Manufacturing teams from concept through production.
  • Contribute certification artifacts and support DO-254 compliance tasks.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and compliance requirements; listed nice-to-have items separately.

  • Must-have: Minimum 2+ years of FPGA or ASIC development experience (regulated or safety-critical environments preferred).
  • Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL and RTL design methodologies.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with Xilinx FPGA architectures and the Vivado tool suite.
  • Must-have: Experience with RTL simulation tools (ModelSim, Questa, or similar) and strong board-level debugging skills.
  • Must-have: Understanding of FPGA development workflows: verification, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and hardware validation.
  • Must-have: U.S. person requirement: candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have asylum/refugee status in the U.S.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to DO-254 processes (requirements-based design, verification, configuration management).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with interfaces such as I2C, SPI, JTAG, Ethernet, PCIe, and video protocols.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong interpersonal skills for cross-discipline collaboration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
