Job Title
FPGA Engineer (Contract)
Role Summary
Contract hardware engineer responsible for FPGA prototyping, firmware-style test development, and post-silicon bring-up and validation. Works on a cross-functional team with design, firmware, and validation engineers to deliver stable FPGA platforms and resolve hardware/firmware integration issues.
Experience Level
Senior β approximately 7 years of relevant experience expected.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop embedded C/C++ test content, low-level drivers, and firmware-style self-checking tests for subsystems and SoCs.
- Extend compile/build flows to support firmware-style tests and automated validation.
- Act as technical owner of the FPGA prototyping platform (e.g., HAPS or Xilinx): produce board images/bitfiles and deliver stable platform releases.
- Design and integrate custom FPGA RTL for protocol interfaces and feature enablement.
- Develop and maintain Python tooling for interfacing with FPGA platforms, test automation, and data parsing.
- Perform hardware and post-silicon debug using JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Drive post-silicon bring-up and validation in the lab, run validation suites on first silicon, and meet bring-up exit criteria on schedule.
- Root-cause failing post-silicon tests, analyze scan dumps, coordinate cross-team debug, and deliver fixes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proven experience developing C/C++ test content for subsystem and SoC verification, including bare-metal and firmware-style tests.
- Experience bringing up and maintaining FPGA prototyping or emulation platforms (e.g., HAPS, Xilinx), including board images and platform tooling.
- Hands-on hardware debug experience with JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
- Experience with post-silicon verification and bring-up: test planning, test development, failure debug, and coverage signoff.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages (Perl, Ruby) for test automation, build flows, and log/data parsing.
- Strong understanding of verification principles, testbench architecture (SystemVerilog familiarity), and stimulus generation.
- Familiarity with industry protocols such as AMBA (AXI/AHB/APB), JTAG, SPI, I2C/I3C, and USB.
- Effective cross-team communication and collaboration skills; ability to coordinate debugging across design, firmware, hardware, and security teams.
- Solid understanding of silicon and/or computer architecture.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
