Role Summary

Fully remote FPGA engineer supporting aerospace and medical-device programs. The role designs, develops, and implements FPGA-based digital systems with emphasis on safety-critical embedded systems and high-performance digital hardware.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, verification, integration, and troubleshooting of FPGA designs throughout the development lifecycle.

• Design and develop FPGA-based digital systems using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Manage the full FPGA lifecycle: synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and build release artifacts.
• Develop and execute verification strategies, including simulation-based validation and timing analysis.
• Integrate FPGA designs into hardware platforms and troubleshoot complex hardware/firmware issues during development and testing.
• Collaborate with systems, firmware, and test teams to meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
• Optimize RTL for performance, area, and power where applicable and maintain development documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in the role.

• 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.
• Strong proficiency in HDL languages: VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or Microchip Libero.
• Solid understanding of digital design principles, RTL design, and hardware interfaces.
• Experience with simulation tools and timing analysis to achieve functional and timing closure.
• Ability to debug complex hardware/firmware integration issues in lab and system test environments.
• Nice-to-have: prior experience in safety-critical domains (aerospace, medical devices) or with related safety/regulatory processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
