Engineer II - Design
MicrochipJob Title
Engineer II - Design
Role Summary
The Engineer II - Design develops and models neural-network algorithms and architectures for analog compute-in-memory (ACIM) systems, supporting architecture, RTL/circuit design, integration, verification, and product lifecycle activities.
This role works with cross-functional design, technology, process, and test teams to deliver performant, power- and area-efficient ACIM solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Engineer II). The posting indicates about 2.5–5 years of relevant experience in neural network modeling for compute-in-memory or neuromorphic computing.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop neural network models for CNNs, transformers, LLMs, RNNs, and related architectures targeting ACIM systems.
- Model variation, mismatch, and their impact across ACIM components.
- Estimate and optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) for ACIM solutions.
- Implement ACIM algorithms and contribute to hardware architecture development.
- Translate product specifications and performance targets into design requirements and schedules.
- Analyze simulations, timing, power, area, integration risks, dependencies, and technical trade-offs.
- Coordinate with engineers across design, technology, process, and test groups to advance ACIM designs.
Requirements
Qualifications and technical expectations. Degrees and formal education details are summarized in the Education Requirements section below.
Must-have:
- 2.5–5 years of experience or research in neural network modeling for compute-in-memory or neuromorphic computing.
- Experience modeling neural-network architectures and applying them to ACIM systems (e.g., MLPs, GRUs, CNNs, small language models).
- Ability to model and analyze PPA and variation effects for analog compute solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated teamwork.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC-V, nonvolatile memory technologies, or VLSI design flows.
- Familiarity with validation, debugging, testing, and CAD/design tools (HSPICE/HSIM, Verilog, Cadence tools).
- Programming and scripting experience such as Python, Tcl, C++, or SystemC.
- Knowledge of computer architecture and semiconductor device physics.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field is required. Preferred: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. (The posting lists these degree expectations and related fields.)
