Role Summary

As an FPGA Development Engineer on the avionics hardware team, you will develop, verify, and validate FPGA logic for safety-critical products following DO-254 guidance. You will support the full product lifecycle from concept and requirements through certification and production and work closely with Systems, Software, PCB Design, and Manufacturing teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Requires approximately 2+ years of FPGA or ASIC development experience, preferably in regulated or safety-critical environments.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA design, verification, hardware validation, and cross-discipline collaboration.

• Design, implement, and verify FPGA logic primarily targeting Xilinx FPGAs using Vivado.
• Develop RTL in Verilog and/or VHDL and perform simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
• Perform FPGA verification (simulation and synthesis checks) and hardware validation in the lab.
• Support circuit-board bring-up, system-level debugging, and board-level fault isolation.
• Contribute to design documentation, requirements traceability, and certification artifacts required for safety-critical avionics.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, PCB Design, and Manufacturing throughout development and production.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints; a short list of desirable extras follows.

• 2+ years of FPGA or ASIC development experience; experience in regulated or safety-critical environments preferred.
• Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL for RTL development.
• Hands-on experience with Xilinx FPGA architectures and the Vivado tool suite.
• Experience with RTL simulation tools such as ModelSim or Questa.
• Understanding of FPGA workflows: RTL design, verification, synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and hardware validation.
• Strong board-level debugging and lab testing skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• U.S. person requirement: must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have asylum or refugee status in the U.S.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity or exposure to DO-254 processes, including requirements-based design and configuration management.
• Familiarity with common digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, JTAG, Ethernet, PCIe, and video interfaces.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of a degree; no other degrees or certifications were specified.
