Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on FPGA engineer responsible for designing, implementing, verifying, and integrating FPGA-based RF and software-defined radio (SDR) systems for government programs. Works within an engineering team on R&D projects that interface FPGAs with RF hardware and embedded processors.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Posting requests 7+ years of professional experience.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities include FPGA development, verification, and system integration.
- Design, implement, and test FPGA RTL (VHDL or Verilog) across the full lifecycle.
- Create and run simulations and verification using ModelSim, Questa, or similar tools.
- Debug at module and system level; perform hardware-in-the-loop and integration testing.
- Interface FPGAs with RF systems and work with RF signal chains and sampling.
- Develop and integrate software-defined radio (SDR) solutions and real-time embedded processing.
- Collaborate with engineers on integrated solutions using embedded processors and FPGA fabric.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and experience.
- Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining DOD Top Secret SCI clearance.
- 7+ years of experience developing SDR or FPGA-based RF solutions.
- Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and RTL development.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx (Vivado) or Intel/Altera toolflows.
- Experience with simulation/verification tools (ModelSim, Questa) and version control (Git).
- Proficiency in C/C++ and MATLAB for algorithm development and test.
- Familiarity with Linux environments (e.g., RedHat, Rocky Linux) and embedded hardware systems.
- Hands-on RF signal processing experience and knowledge of digital RF sampling and modulation concepts.
- Preferred: experience with Xilinx SoC/RFSoC integration and DSP algorithms; background in C5ISR, EW, SIGINT, or communications systems is a plus.
Education Requirements
The posting lists a Bachelor's degree as required. It also contains a conflicting line referencing a high school diploma or GED as a minimum. Preferred fields include Engineering or Computer Science. No specific certifications or explicit "or equivalent experience" language are provided.
