Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver FPGA-based solutions for a wireless product line within the Mastodon Design team at CACI. Work on size-, weight-, and power-constrained RF hardware and associated firmware to meet aggressive fielding timelines.
Experience Level
Mid-level β 3+ years of relevant FPGA and DSP design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate FPGA and associated electronic components for RF communications equipment.
- Implement HDL code, manage pin and timing constraints, and verify designs in laboratory and system-level environments.
- Integrate and validate high-speed interfaces and transport layers (e.g., JESD204C, high-speed Ethernet, VITA-49).
- Debug complex FPGA/DSP systems in-circuit; perform bring-up, experimental tests, and analyze results to select components and tune designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, RF) and document technical designs and test results.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 3+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP design experience.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance.
- In-depth HDL coding skills: VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog.
- Experience managing pin and timing constraints and debugging complex FPGA designs in-system.
- Experience implementing and debugging high-speed architectures (JESD204C; 2.5G, 10G, 40G, 100G Ethernet).
- Experience implementing or working with VITA-49 transport layer.
- Solid understanding of communications systems and algorithms: RF filters, modulation/demodulation, channel estimation/equalization, channel coding (FEC), AFC, AGC.
- DSP baseband signal processing, peripheral programming/control, and task scheduling experience.
- Proficiency programming DSPs and FPGAs using Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and VHDL.
- Self-starter who works effectively in a team environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interpreting and implementing wireless standards (3GPP: LTE/WCDMA/GSM; IEEE 802.11; IEEE 802.15).
- Mixed-signal experience: quantization, dynamic range (SFDR), power optimization, and baseband equivalent modeling.
- Hardware bring-up experience with custom boards containing FPGAs or SoCs.
- Experience with SoCs such as Ultrascale+, Zynq-7000, Intel Agilex.
- Experience with softcore processors (Picoblaze, MicroBlaze, NIOS) and DMA/AMBA buses (AXI/AXIS, ACP).
- Simulation experience including SystemVerilog classes and packages.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a similar technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering) as stated in the posting.
