Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and verify FPGA/ASIC solutions for electronic Safe and Arm Devices used in Department of Defense armament systems. Work on FPGA architecture, HDL development, firmware integration, and hardware validation within a hardware engineering team.
Experience Level
Mid-level: requires multiple years of hands-on FPGA and embedded systems experience; see Education Requirements for specific years-of-experience equivalencies.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define hardware specifications and FPGA architectures.
- Develop HDL in Verilog targeting Antifuse and Flash FPGAs (Microsemi/Actel).
- Implement verification using SystemVerilog UVM and conduct simulations with QuestaSim.
- Integrate and test firmware; program microcontrollers in C and C# as required.
- Perform hardware bring-up, testing, and debugging using logic analyzers and JTAG/ICE tools.
- Analyze hardware performance and collaborate with firmware and systems teams to meet requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements to increase design quality and reduce time-to-market.
Requirements
Must-have skills:
- Proven experience with Verilog for FPGA logic design.
- Proficiency in embedded C programming and code optimization for constrained systems.
- Familiarity with FPGA toolchains and simulation (examples include Microsemi/Actel tools and QuestaSim).
- Hands-on experience with hardware debug equipment such as logic analyzers and JTAG/ICE debuggers.
- Experience developing for Antifuse or Flash FPGA device families.
Nice-to-have:
- SystemVerilog verification experience (AVM, VMM, OVM, UVM).
- Experience creating C# solutions for Flash microcontrollers.
- Prior work on Department of Defense armament or other safety-critical systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree plus at least six years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree plus at least four years of relevant experience; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
