Job Title

FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Junior FPGA Developer responsible for designing, developing, and testing FPGA-based digital hardware systems using Xilinx toolchains. The role sits in the Engineering / Hardware Development team and supports aerospace product development and integration.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Junior). Suitable for candidates early in their FPGA/embedded hardware career; typically 0–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include FPGA design, verification, and hardware integration under the direction of senior engineers.

  • Design and implement FPGA logic using VHDL or Verilog.
  • Develop and run simulations and maintain testbenches for verification.
  • Perform synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis using Xilinx toolflows.
  • Debug and troubleshoot FPGA designs in simulation and on hardware.
  • Support hardware/software co‑simulation and integration with embedded systems.
  • Produce and maintain hardware specifications and documentation.
  • Collaborate with software developers, electrical engineers, and system architects.
  • Stay current with FPGA tools and design methodologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints; preferred items listed separately.

Must-have:

  • Strong knowledge of digital logic design and basic hardware concepts.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGA development tools (e.g., Vivado, ISE, Xilinx SDK).
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages: VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Familiarity with FPGA simulation and debugging tools (e.g., ModelSim, ChipScope).
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
  • Good problem-solving and hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and ability to work in a team.
  • U.S. citizenship required (position is with a DoD contractor).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq or other SoC platforms.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet) and HLS tools.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and scripting (Python, TCL).
  • Experience with hardware/software co-design and high-speed design practices.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is listed as the expected qualification; equivalent practical experience is implied as acceptable where applicable.
