FPGA Digital Design Engineer II
Role Summary
Develop FPGA designs across AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, and Microsemi device families for applications including gigabit serial interfaces, RF and EO DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces. Work with circuit card designers and systems engineers from requirements through integration and test.
Responsibilities span architecture, VHDL development, simulation, place-and-route, verification (directed and constrained-random), documentation, and configuration management. This is an onsite role in Massachusetts (Tewksbury or Marlborough).
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver production-quality FPGA solutions and support the design lifecycle from concept to production.
- Architect FPGA-based systems: select parts, define interfaces, and establish Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
- Translate system-level requirements into FPGA requirements and implement designs in VHDL.
- Develop, simulate, and perform place-and-route for FPGA implementations.
- Verify designs using self-checking tests with directed and constrained-random methodologies; track functional and code coverage.
- Integrate and debug FPGA/ASIC devices during hardware bring-up and system integration.
- Create and maintain design documentation, verification plans, and user guides; support technical reviews and configuration management.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical qualifications and clearance requirements.
Must-have:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant FPGA/ASIC experience, including at least one of: digital design and VHDL coding; experience with Xilinx or Altera devices and flows; delivering FPGA/ASIC solutions to system-level applications; hands-on integration and debug of FPGA/ASIC devices.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- DoD Secret clearance required; active and existing clearance expected at hire.
- Strong documentation, verification planning, and configuration management skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with radar processing, image processing for visual/infrared sensors, or embedded systems using ARM/MicroBlaze/Nios processors.
- Experience with gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
- Verification experience with constrained-random methods (UVM/SystemVerilog) or emulation platforms such as Veloce.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). The posting specifies a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
