FPGA Development Tools Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical lead responsible for development, modeling, and validation of FPGA IP and simulation models within the Quartus Prime ecosystem. Hands-on role that sets technical direction, solves complex system issues, and mentors engineers.

Experience Level

Senior - 8–12+ years of experience in FPGA design, IP development, or verification.

Responsibilities

Drive technical direction and hands-on delivery for FPGA IP, simulation models, verification, and Quartus tool integration.

• Define technical direction and lead design reviews and architecture discussions.
• Design and implement FPGA IP in RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL).
• Develop high-fidelity simulation models (behavioral and cycle-accurate) and ensure consistency with hardware.
• Define and enforce verification methodologies, including SystemVerilog and assertion-based verification.
• Architect testbenches, coverage strategy, and regression systems.
• Lead debugging and root-cause analysis across simulation, fitter, and timing analysis; produce actionable fixes.
• Integrate and improve flows with compilation, fitter, and timing closure; increase tool debuggability.
• Promote engineering productivity through automation (Python, Tcl), regression infrastructure, and AI-assisted workflows where applicable.
• Mentor engineers in debugging, design quality, verification practices, and system-level thinking.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience. Degrees are listed under Education Requirements.

• Must-have: Strong hands-on RTL design experience (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL).
• Proven simulation and verification experience, including SystemVerilog and assertion-based techniques.
• Deep experience with Altera Quartus Prime or equivalent FPGA toolchains and flow integration.
• Proven ability to debug complex system-level issues and lead technical initiatives.
• Experience designing testbench architectures, coverage strategies, and regression systems.
• Experience with automation and scripting (Python, Tcl) for productivity and regression infrastructure.
• Nice-to-have: Cycle-accurate modeling experience, familiarity with fitter internals and timing-closure techniques, experience applying AI-assisted workflows to design/verification tasks, prior mentorship or technical lead experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
