FPGA Design Engineer
OusterJob Title
FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA RTL and verification to support next-generation LiDAR sensors. Work on FPGA development, simulation, synthesis, and software–hardware integration within the firmware team to optimize real-time sensor performance.
Experience Level
Entry / Early-career - typically 2+ years of relevant FPGA development experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver RTL and verification for FPGA-based sensor systems and support system integration and testing.
- Develop and maintain HDL (SystemVerilog/Verilog) RTL for FPGA designs.
- Create and run simulations and test benches; support verification activities.
- Perform synthesis and timing closure using FPGA toolchains.
- Integrate FPGA logic with SoC platforms and bus interconnects (e.g., AXI).
- Support board bring-up, hardware debugging, and system-level validation.
- Participate in design reviews, document designs, and collaborate with firmware and hardware teams.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical experience required for the role.
- 2+ years of FPGA development experience, including HDL development, simulation, test bench development, synthesis, and timing closure.
- High proficiency in SystemVerilog or Verilog.
- Proficiency in C or C++ for firmware/hardware integration tasks.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA toolchains (AMD Xilinx Vivado or Intel/Altera Quartus).
- Experience developing logic for FPGA-based SoC devices (for example, Xilinx Zynq or Intel Arria) and using bus interconnects such as AXI.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and development best practices.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience using lab tools (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) for board bring-up and hardware debugging.
- Experience with High-Level Synthesis (HLS) / Vitis and DSP or algorithm development.
- Experience with modern verification methodologies such as UVM.
- Linux development experience and scripting (Python, TCL, Bash).
- Experience with industrial safety systems or Functional Safety development processes.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree - or equivalent practical experience.
