FPGA Associate (Summer 2027)
Role Summary
Entry-level, 12-week salaried associate position focused on FPGA RTL development for satellite communications. Work on FPGA designs, verification, and hardware testing as part of a cross-functional hardware and software engineering team at Astranis’ San Francisco headquarters.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Associate - intended for recent graduates (completed B.S. or M.S.). Typical program duration: twelve weeks.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, and verification of FPGA-based systems:
- Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for FPGA-targeted applications and perform synthesis.
- Work with multiple FPGA families and vendor toolchains.
- Integrate FPGAs with peripherals such as high-speed data converters (ADCs/DACs), memories, and microcontrollers.
- Write software and testbenches to validate RTL on hardware.
- Collaborate with electrical and software engineers on system integration, debugging, and testing.
Requirements
Must-have skills and conditions:
- Experience designing, implementing, and testing high-throughput systems on FPGAs.
- Proficiency with Verilog/SystemVerilog targeted for synthesis.
- Hands-on hardware development experience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency (green card), or refugee/asylee status required (per U.S. export regulations).
Nice-to-have:
- UVM and advanced SystemVerilog verification experience.
- Experience with Xilinx FPGAs, Vivado, and TCL scripting.
- Familiarity with power, thermal, and area tradeoffs at the system level.
- Experience with high-speed data converters and JESD204B.
- Circuit-level debugging and digital communications (e.g., LDPC) experience.
- Experience with space-based systems, RF/IF/IQ domains, or high-reliability design.

Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience. The associate program is designed for recent graduates who have completed a four-year university degree.
