Formal Verification Lead
Role Summary
The Formal Verification Lead ensures functional correctness and low-power intent integrity across the design lifecycle by driving equivalence checking and closure for hierarchical designs. You will own RTL-to-gate and gate-to-gate equivalence sign-off and coordinate with RTL, synthesis, DFT and physical design teams to resolve mismatches.
This role is based in Barcelona with a hybrid schedule (4 days/week in the city-center office, 1 day WFH).
Experience Level
Senior - 7+ years of experience in Formal Verification/Logic Equivalence Checking (LEC).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Perform RTL-to-gate and gate-to-gate equivalence checks using tools such as Synopsys Formality or VC LP.
- Debug LEC failures, including issues from clock gating, retention, isolation, and level shifters.
- Ensure LEC convergence across synthesis, place-and-route, and ECO cycles.
- Collaborate with RTL, synthesis, DFT and physical design teams to resolve design mismatches.
- Validate ECOs and ensure equivalence closure after design changes.
- Develop automation scripts and improve LEC methodologies to support sign-off.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in formal verification and LEC sign-off flows.
- Strong expertise with Synopsys Formality / VC LP or equivalent LEC tools.
- Practical understanding of low-power design concepts and UPF impact on equivalence.
- Experience with synthesis, netlist optimization and equivalence debugging.
- Proficiency in scripting (TCL, Python, or Perl) to build automation and analyses.
- Experience with hierarchical subsystem-level LEC flows.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with DFT concepts and scan impact on equivalence.
- Knowledge of STA and physical-design interactions that affect LEC.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline.
