Job Title

Firmware Engineer II

Role Summary

Design and implement firmware for high-speed SERDES PHY IP used in system-on-chip (SoC) products. Work across firmware architecture, implementation, verification, post-silicon validation, and customer deployment within a cross-functional IP team.

Responsibilities include developing control and adaptation algorithms, supporting verification and validation, and providing field support and hot fixes during customer integration.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically 2–4 years of relevant firmware or embedded systems experience as indicated in the posting.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware development, validation, and field support:

  • Develop and implement firmware features for high-speed SERDES: control, adaptation, equalization, and related algorithms.
  • Build system-level prototype control software to validate algorithms and system behavior.
  • Collaborate with verification and validation teams to debug and resolve firmware issues found in simulation and testing.
  • Support post-silicon electrical and system characterization and implement firmware improvements.
  • Work with product engineering and system validation to debug IP issues in the field and deliver hot fixes.
  • Document designs, test results, and debug findings.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and traits:

  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python for firmware and prototype software development.
  • Understanding of wireline communication principles and high-speed serial links.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal circuit concepts and digital signal processing techniques.
  • Experience debugging across firmware, hardware, and verification environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication.
