Firmware Engineer II
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Firmware Engineer II
Role Summary
Develop low-level firmware for DDR5 PHY microcontroller subsystems within the DDR PHY IP Front End Design team. Work closely with hardware designers, memory-subsystem architects, and verification engineers to implement training algorithms, perform firmware-hardware co-verification, and support silicon bring-up.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Firmware Engineer II). Years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development, verification collaboration, and silicon bring-up support:
- Design and implement bare-metal firmware in C for DDR5 PHY microcontrollers and low-level APIs.
- Collaborate with hardware designers and memory subsystem architects to define and implement training algorithms.
- Coordinate with verification teams to create and execute firmware-hardware co-verification plans.
- Develop and debug firmware in RTL-based hardware simulations (C + Verilog simulations).
- Debug firmware on silicon bring-up boards and support hardware validation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools:
- Strong knowledge of DDR5 JEDEC specification and DIMM configurations.
- Proven experience developing bare-metal firmware for high-speed SerDes or memory-interface PHY blocks.
- Proficient in C for embedded software development and familiar with relevant IDEs.
- Experience debugging RTL simulations that include firmware and microcontroller subsystems.
- Scripting skills in Shell, Perl, Python, or TCL.
- Experience with verification EDA tools such as simulators and waveform viewers.
