Job Title

Firmware Engineer - GPU

Role Summary

Senior firmware engineer on the GPU Firmware Development team responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying out-of-band and peripheral firmware for GPU OOBHUB subsystems. The role focuses on robust peripheral control, secure update mechanisms, telemetry, and close collaboration with hardware and software teams to bring new GPU features into production.

Experience Level

Senior - expects 3+ years of experience in low-level firmware development, embedded systems, or microcontroller programming.

Responsibilities

Deliver and maintain high-reliability firmware components for GPU subsystems and work with cross-functional teams to define firmware-hardware interfaces.

  • Architect, develop, and debug core firmware for the GPU OOBHUB focusing on peripheral control and secure communications.
  • Design and implement firmware lifecycle and secure update systems, plus telemetry for monitoring.
  • Define firmware-hardware interfaces and communication protocols in partnership with hardware architects and ASIC designers.
  • Write high-integrity, maintainable code and apply robust debugging and validation methodologies.
  • Collaborate with internal software, hardware, and infrastructure teams to deliver production-ready firmware for new architectures.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in low-level firmware development, embedded systems, or microcontroller programming.
  • Proven experience managing peripherals and communication stacks using protocols such as SPI, I2C/I3C, PCIe, SMBus, MCTP, and PLDM.
  • Expert-level C development skills in resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience with RISC-V or similar embedded processor architectures.
  • Strong software engineering practices: debugging, testing, version control, and deliverable-focused development.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for close collaboration with hardware designers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity or hands-on experience with the Rust programming language for high-integrity firmware.
  • Deep RISC-V experience (assembly, custom extensions, or low-level optimization).
  • Experience designing secure firmware updates, hardware roots of trust, or integrating cryptographic hardware accelerators.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience.
