Job Title

Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and validate firmware for SSD products within a cross-functional engineering team. Focus on firmware quality, failure analysis, design verification, and tools to support embedded storage systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” role requires approximately 5 years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Work on SSD firmware development, verification, and failure analysis across hardware and host systems.

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware targeting SSD controllers and memory systems.
  • Perform design verification using simulation and product testing; validate customer requirements.
  • Debug and perform root-cause analysis for firmware-related failures in test and target environments.
  • Participate in SCRUM/Agile processes, conduct distributed code reviews, and follow engineering workflows.
  • Create and maintain test tools, automation, and CI/build systems for firmware validation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers when required.

Requirements

Key technical skills and domain experience required for successful performance in the role.

  • Must-have: SSD firmware testing or development experience.
  • Must-have: Experience with SSD or NAND Flash development and Flash Translation Layer algorithms.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++ for firmware and test tool development.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with storage protocols such as PCIe and NVMe; knowledge of ONFI/USB is beneficial.
  • Must-have: Experience with Git-based development flows, branch management, and Agile methodologies.
  • Must-have: Test automation, testing methodologies, and working with CI/build automation systems.
  • Must-have: Experience using scripting languages and debugging/failure-analysis tools in embedded environments.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior team leadership or supervision experience; experience with advanced verification methods.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or an engineer-related occupation (as stated by the employer).
