Role Summary

Member of the Physical Layer Products (PLP) embedded systems team responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing low-level firmware, middleware, and diagnostic software for optical PHY chipsets.

The role works across the full product lifecycle and collaborates with system, analog, and digital hardware teams to deliver high-performance embedded firmware on ARM-based platforms.

Experience Level

Senior — typical experience guidance: Bachelor's + 8 years, Master's + 6 years, or PhD + 3 years in a related field.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include new product firmware design, maintenance of legacy code, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Architect, design, and implement low-level firmware modules, middleware, and diagnostic software for optical PHY chipsets.
• Develop and troubleshoot complex firmware applications in embedded C on ARM targets.
• Design and maintain device drivers and hardware interfaces.
• Collaborate with system, analog, and digital hardware engineers during development and bring-up.
• Provide architectural governance, enforce design patterns and code hygiene, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

• Proven expertise in C and ARM Assembly on embedded targets.
• Strong understanding of real-time systems, multi-threading, and concurrent programming.
• Experience with multiprocessor programming and inter-processor communication.
• Hands-on driver development experience (MDIO, I2C, SPI, etc.).

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with ARM processor architectures and architecture-specific optimizations.
• Software development experience on Windows (Visual C++) and Linux environments.
• Familiarity with open-source licensing (GPL, LGPL, Apache) and integrating proprietary software.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years, Master's degree plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years in a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
